Ferragudo – Our First Love!
Nestled along the Arade River, Ferragudo is a postcard-perfect fishing village that holds a special place in our hearts. The cobblestone streets wind through whitewashed houses, leading you to cozy cafés, artisan shops, and friendly locals who always greet you with a smile.
- Must-See: The charming square, Largo Rainha Dona Leonor, is the heart of the village and the perfect place to sip coffee while soaking in the relaxed atmosphere.
- Beaches: Visit Praia Grande for calm waters, perfect for families, and Praia dos Caneiros for a more secluded feel.
- Why We Love It: Ferragudo feels authentic and peaceful- far removed from the hustle of the bigger towns. It’s the perfect base to explore the Algarve while feeling right at home.

Albufeira – The Heart of Algarve Nightlife
Albufeira is the Algarve’s party capital, drawing visitors from around the globe. By day, you’ll find sun-soaked beaches and bustling streets filled with shops. By night, the town comes alive with bars, clubs, and restaurants offering vibrant nightlife.
- Must-See: Stroll along the Old Town for cobbled streets, lively plazas, and unique shops.
- Fun Fact: Known as “Little England,” Albufeira has a strong British influence, with many expats and holidaymakers making it their go-to destination.
- Best Time to Visit: July and August are the liveliest months, but visit in the shoulder seasons (May, September) to avoid the crowds.
- Warning: Personally, I would not visit Albufeira with kids – this is a party town and it has gotten fairly crazy and touristy. But, if you are in for late nights, loud music, and some crazy fun, then this is your place to go.
Alvor – Coastal Charm and Relaxation
Alvor is a small coastal village that blends modern amenities with old-world charm. It’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the Algarve’s relaxed pace of life.
- Must-See: The Alvor Boardwalk, a scenic wooden path that winds through dunes and salt marshes, offering stunning views of the coastline.
- Dining Tip: Don’t miss Yacht Club Café & Bar, a cozy spot with great views and delicious food. We went to the beach and ate at Restinga, and really enjoyed it! The seafood was fresh and the sangria was on-point. Just make sure to wear clothes.
- Why Visit: Alvor’s marina, colorful fishing boats, and laid-back vibe make it a great escape from busier towns. We really enjoyed Alvor’s beach as well – it is extremely long (miles) and the girls found the best sea shells there!
