We’ve officially made the Carvoeiro Black & White Party a tradition! And this year, it was even better than the last. Held every June, this free street party turns the charming seaside village of Carvoeiro into one giant dance floor under the stars…and we couldn’t recommend it more.
What is the Carvoeiro Black & White Party?
Picture this: DJs and live bands on multiple stages, stilt walkers and fire performers weaving through cobbled streets, dancers on balconies, and a crowd of thousands all dressed in black and white filling every inch of the town. It’s electric, joyful, and completely unforgettable.
When & where:
Carvoeiro Black & White Party:
- Carvoeiro town center
- Held annually in mid-to-late June
- Festivities kick off around 8PM and go WELL past midnight (we left around 12:30am this year, and people were JUST arriving!)
Tip: Arrive before sunset for easier navigating and to catch the warm-up entertainment. And don’t even think about trying to park in the village. Uber or taxi is 100% the way to go, the roads in are closed off early and parking is nearly impossible.
Dress code: ALL black & white
The entire town sticks to the theme, and it’s half the fun. You’ll see everything from beachy linen to full glam, retro flair, feathers, sequins, and matching family outfits… the more fun you have with it, the better!
Family-friendly vibes + late-night energy
Many families bring the kids early and let them dance along to the live bands and grab ice cream before things got really wild (in the best way). The early evening hours are perfect for families and then after 10PM, the DJs, lasers, and party crowd take over. The last two years, the hubs and I decided to go kid-free however and use this as an adult night out! Highly recommend if you can find a sitter 🙂
Highlight of the night this year: the hidden silent disco
Okay, this deserves its own moment. We accidentally discovered a hidden gem at the top of the hill by the old church (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação). Tucked away from the crowd, we stumbled into our first-ever silent disco! Headphones on, music pumping in your ears, and a crowd of strangers dancing in unison to two dueling DJs. Pure magic. I haven’t stopped smiling about it since.
Final thoughts: Go. Just go.
If you’re in the Algarve in June, plan ahead and go to Carvoeiro’s Black & White Party. It’s the kind of experience that makes you fall in love with Portugal all over again. Pack your black and white, bring your best dance moves, and don’t miss the hilltop surprise.
