There are lunches you forget, and then there are lunches that mark time. Our afternoon at Morgado do Quintão, nestled in the heart of the Algarve between Silves and the Monchique mountains, was the latter.
Imagine this: a 200+ year old olive tree, its wide silver-green branches casting gentle shade over a rustic wooden table. Around you, vines stretch across the land like lazy green rivers. The sun filters through the leaves, a soft breeze carries the scent of rosemary and fresh bread, and every glass of wine tastes like summer.
We booked the “Lunch Under the Olive Tree” experience online (which I highly recommend, don’t just show up, it fills fast!), and it was the highlight of our week. The food was glorious, simple, seasonal, and deeply flavorful. Think fresh bread, local olive oil (and olives!), perfectly cooked cod fish, and traditional Portuguese pork and potatoes which were cooked to perfection and so full of flavor! Every course paired beautifully with their own wines, especially the Crato Branco and Tinto Palhete, which can also be ordered for home delivery.
What makes Morgado do Quintão so special isn’t just the setting or the wine. It’s the feeling of being part of a story, a family estate turned sustainable (and now officially organic!) vineyard that honors heritage and modern craftsmanship all at once. It’s barefoot luxury, quietly sophisticated and totally welcoming.
If you’re in the Algarve and want to do something memorable, book this lunch. Come for the wine, stay for the tree.
